Algeria & Morocco: What the Constitutional Amendments are Trying to Prevent

The forces of evil have struck again in Maghreb (both Algeria & Morocco)!

I think that it is much better to sacrifice some of our constitutional rights, than to sacrifice our lives and the country's stability.

While watching the news tonight with sadness, I find myself looking differently -positively, to the latest constitutional amendments that broadens the jurisdictions of security organizations in Egypt.

I now fully support these amendments, and even that article about the judges; I never felt sorry about it for many reasons that I will mention if someone asks.

Hafsa,

Of course what I meant is that I now look favorably at the Constitutional Amendments in Egypt that gives more authority to the Egyptian security agencies (which in many ways resemble the Patriot act in USA). Giving more authority to security agencies might prevent attacks similar to the ones that happened in Maghreb from occurring in Egypt. Did you forget 1992-1997 when these bastards kept bombing Cairo and shooting at tourists, remember the Luxor massacre? I was too blocks away when they bombed next to CIB in Gam'et El-Dowal street in 1994, at that time they were attacking banks! Since then police prevents any car from parking next to a bank.

I prefer loosing some privacy as a citizen and having someone listen to my phone calls, or coming to search my house without court order to loosing my life, or my property!

I supported the amendments of articles 1 and 5 from the beginning, and frankly, I didn't worry much about the lifting of judiciary control of polling, since the judges in Egypt has proven in many cases to be subjective (just look at Kareem, Bahai'is, and other cases), and besides, they didn't really prevent the election fraud that happened last time. Besides, no other country use judges to monitor elections, we need to have an agency or a body to monitor this activity, and now, as I explained above, I see the rationale for the rest of the amendments.

i dunno but am not in favor with amendments and i dont believe that they will prevent more terrorist attacks, tell me, what will happen if we have more bombings AND have our personal freedeom taken away from us???
and the thing u call patriotic act in the states didnt prove to be good after all. but i agree with you totally bout judges, what shall i say, judes lost thier " heibah" since the " honorable nasser ruined the whole system of the country whth his excellent way of ruling. :)
