Although I had strong feelings for the last 20 years against Saddam, I couldn't help but shed a tear when I heard in the news this morning that he was executed!
I am trying to remember all his victims to make myself feel better, he is responsible for killing more human beings than probably anyone alive! 1 millions died in his senseless Iran war, tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of innocent kurds, equal numbers of Southern Shia, a lot of Sunni dissidents, Kuwaitis, etc...
He also destroyed the common Arab voice after his crazy invasion of Kuwait.
The guy is responsible for real disasters that I don't even have the space to document here, however, the context is not right! a foreign power getting in with its mighty power, occupies the country, destroys its unity and introduces a sectarian system, then captures and hand over Saddam, -who, some might argue, is legally the president of Iraq- to what looks like lynch mob. The fact that there was due process (?) doesn't erase the reality of occupation, and destruction of Iraq as unified country that we all hold dear in Egypt.
